According to the Mayo Clinic, metabolism is the process by which your body converts what you eat and drink into energy. Your basal metabolic rate, or BMR, measures the energy that your body uses for basic functions like blood circulation and breathing, which occur all the time, even when you’re sleeping. Everyone has a different metabolism speed, which is influenced by variables like age, weight, and genetic history. Boosting your metabolism means speeding up the rate at which your body uses the calories you consume for energy. While you can’t place the blame for weight gain solely on a slow metabolism, a fast metabolism will burn calories at a faster rate, meaning you can eat more and gain less weight. Here is a list of strategies that will help boost your metabolism.

1. Add weight training and high intensity interval training (HIIT) to your workout routines.

HIIT, which involves short bursts of intense activity, burns fat by increasing your metabolic rate. 4. Get better sleep.
