Firstly, it’s so normal to have cravings for sweets, we’re all human and who doesn't love chocolate, chips, cookies, donuts, ice cream...etc!

In saying that, we also need to prioritize nutrient dense foods and get in all our important micronutrients! Doing this helps minimize those cravings for sweets!

So, how do we find balance with incorporating the foods that aren't “HEALTH” in a manageable way with the bulk of foods we should be eating to fuel our bodies in the best way possible?

How To Manage Cravings For Sweets

If you find yourself always wanting something sweet before bed, incorporate a treat such as a piece of dark chocolate or bowl of yogurt with some berries before bed each night.

1) Don’t ignore your cravings. This way you’re answering your cravings and less likely to find yourself eating through a whole entire chocolate bar one night because you’ve ignored your cravings during the week.

 

2) Find a healthier alternative and get creative in the kitchen! There are so many home-made recipes out there for your take-away cravings. If you love burgers, there’s no reason to deny yourself one, just make it yourself. This way you have much more control over the QUALITY of the ingredients used, from the meat (buying leaner patties vs. highly processed patties used in fast food restaurants) to the sauces. You want french fries with that? Same thing! Bake your own french fries at home so that you minimize unnecessary oils.

Manage cravings and really prioritize feeding your body with high volume, nutrient dense meals.

3) Focus on having proper meals throughout the day. Fuel your body with all the nutrients it needs during the day. STOP SKIPPING MEALS and really prioritize feeding your body with high volume, nutrient dense meals. This way you stay fuller for longer (satiety) and you’re less likely to feel the need to constantly snack and think about cravings because your body is properly fueled!

 

4) Clean out that pantry!!! Having foods lying around that you are subject to craving will make things 10x harder on you. Get rid of that snack stash and replace those snacks with healthier options! For example- if you love brownies, go buy fiber one brownies! It’s an amazing and YUMMY alternative that will definitely fulfill your chocolate craving.

 

If you can nail these down, you’ll start to feel and see a difference!
